The Department of Medicine is committed to setting the highest standards for patient care, biomedical research, professional education, teaching, and training. Goal-
The goal of the program is to provide specialized training in medicine for all health professionals that will enhance local clinical expertise in diagnostic and treatment care in the region.
The program provides hands-on experience and training in patient care, medical treatments and special skills in the nominated areas of expertise including research.
To develop advanced knowledge and skills in clinical medicine through participation in a comprehensive training program at various clinical sites.
To enhance local expertise in medical health care and promote best clinical practice within local contexts.
The program includes the following components:
- Clinical training under supervision of highly qualified medical professionals
- Tutorial program
- Departmental seminars/guest lectures
- Research meetings/programs
- Training modules
- Visits to a range of community rehabilitation and support services
- Individual supervision with consultant
- Journal club
- Case conferences/presentations
- Academic meetings
- Visits to other university-affiliated services
Objectives -
- The PG program will allow the new medicine resident to build on knowledge and skills gained during undergraduation. It is the overall goal to allow the resident to gain as much possible experience over a broad range of medical practice.
- The resident will gain broader experience and more specific insight into those areas of medical practice which most interact with the practice of medicine and to diagnose, treat the patient.
- The resident will improve skills in patient assessment: history taking, physical examination and ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
- The resident will develop independent clinical judgment and responsibility.
- The resident will develop skills in interpersonal relationships with patients, colleagues and other members of the patient care team.
- The resident will gain further experience in the continuing care of patients and more understanding of the natural history of disease.
- These goals will be achieved through the required rotations and postings in different specialty branches. .
